Birka Style Viking knife… Available soon.

This knife is currently unfinished. I’m planning some handle embellishment.. just haven’t decided what yet. Birka knives were found with wire wrap on the wood grip so that is an option. And I may use it to advance my efforts in learning to carve.    But the blade is a three bar composite with wrought iron on the spine and two bars of opposing twist 15n20/1084.  The metal spacer is my own ‘hearth steel’ made from melting and carburizing wrought iron in a traditional Norse manner, fossil walrus ivory, birch bark and old growth black oak salvaged by divers from Lake Superior.  The pommel plate is mammoth ivory and there is a little knob of home smelted bloom iron with nickel silver and copper inlay.

More pictures to come.. but please contact me with any potential interest.

Hi there.. I’m traveling right now.. But will write more tomorrow. You have first grab at it and I haven’t had time to make any changes on it. More tomorrow…

Hi again. I’m still away from home but I can give you these options. I have not yet made a sheath for this. I can offer the knife alone for $400 or $450 with a Scandinavian style leather sheath or $500 with Gotland style with sheet bronze adornment. Let me know if you have any questions… We will be home tomorrow afternoon and we can chat on the phone if you like.

Thanks for the comments. This has been accounted for… But I will have something similiar, if smaller, very soon…
