The jian is a Chinese sword with a long and wondrous history spanning time periods from the Chinese Bronze Age to contemporary martial arts. My take on it represents a fusion between the famous bronze Warring States swords and the iron swords of the Qin dynasty. The composite pattern welded blade is composed of three separate bars with the center two being twisted in opposing ways. The bronze guard and pommel were sand cast in a rough state and then hand carved using motifs from the Warring States dynasty. The grip and scabbard are made from old growth black oak salvaged by divers from the bottom of Lake Superior featuring ebony highlights.
